Edgewater Real Estate & Homes
Edgewater is a borough in south-eastern Bergen County and was incorporated in 1894 from portions of the now-gone Ridgefield Township. Shortly after, the town was renamed from Undercliff to Edgewater. Edgewater is a narrow strip of land, running between the Hudson River and Fort Lee. It’s greatest appeal comes from its proximity to New York City, offering commuting options north via the George Washington Bridge, south via the Lincoln Tunnel, and east via the Edgewater-NYC Water Ferry service.
The combination of the flexible commute, dozens of store’s, water-front walkway, NYC views and great schools have attracted many residents to Edgewater. In fact, it’s population has more than doubled since 1990, going from 5,000 to almost 12,000 today. As such, Edgewater’s population density of 9,000 per square mile is one of the highest in the state. Housing options are dominated by Condos and Townhouses – although there are also various single family and duplex options.
Edgewater has recently completed a brand new Elementary School and has a transfer agreement with Leonia where High School students in grades 9-12 are able to attend the Leonia High School.
Edgewater is served by NJ Transit route 156, 158 and 159 via river road, running to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan. Additionally, NJ Transit route 188 runs to the Goerge Washington Bridge Terminal in north Manhattan. NJ transit also runs local routes 751 and 755. Ferry service is offered by NY Waterways and runs to the West Midtown Ferry Terminal in Manhattan.
